Made, a team made up of eight of the 2004 Taylor Made players and three
guests, went 6-1 and took the 2004 SSAA C Winter World title.
Taylor Made defeated the Fisher Electric team in the finals of the
winners bracket, only to face them again in the finals. Fisher
took the first game 20-15 but TM was able to scratch out a victory in
the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs on a walk off HR, after Fisher had an
apparent game ending double play slip through their hands. GEM
Construction, with pitcher Greg Jones on the mound, fought all the way
back from a first round loss to go 9-2 for an impressive 3rd place
finish. GEM defeated GRP/Mizuno in the 8th inning after GRP put
them in the losers bracket in the first game. GRP was one run away
from winning, only to see GEM put up a bunch in the top of the 8th.

USSSA
Altered Bats Procedures (from USSSA)
The days of using altered bats in USSSA play are about to come to an
end. As a result of rule changes to be implemented beginning in the 2004
USSSA playing season, USSSA is intent on removing all altered bats from
USSSA play. Beginning in 2004, if you feel that a player may be using an
altered bat in USSSA play, you should report it to the appropriate local
or state USSSA director. The Director will have the authority to inspect
the bat and to suspend the suspected offending player. The suspected
offending player will have a couple of choices: First, he can allow the
director to inspect the bat and reach his initial conclusion on whether
the bat might be altered or he can keep his bat from inspection and
accept a 1 year suspension from USSSA play with no right appeal; Second,
if after allowing inspection, the director has decided that the bat
might be an altered bat, the suspected offending player may allow the
director to send the bat to the USSSA Altered Bat Committee and/or the
Manufacturer of the bat for a determination on whether the bat is
altered or he can accept a 1 year suspension from USSSA play with no
right of appeal. During the time of the examination of the bat by the
manufacturer, depending on the sole discretion of the USSSA Altered Bat
Committee the USSSA may suspend the suspected offending player pending
the decision. If the manufacturer or the Altered Bat Committee of the
USSSA determine in their sole discretion that the bat has been altered
the Altered Bat Committee may suspend a first time offender for up to 2
years from USSSA play. Such suspension decision may be appealed at the
next USSSA annual meeting. For a second time offender, any suspension
under this altered bat suspension process will be for life.
The responsibility for knowing whether a bat is altered is that of the
user and the owner of the bat. If an individual uses a bat in USSSA play
or is the owner of a bat that is brought into a USSSA facility, the
suspensions will be imposed with out regard to what the individual knew
about the bat being altered. An individual must know that his bat is not
an Altered bat, if he brings it into a USSSA facility or uses it in a
USSSA game. If not, the individual can be suspended from USSSA
activities. The fact that the individual did not know that the bat was
altered is not a factor in imposing the suspension. The question is only
whether the bat is altered or not.
Altered bats are bats, which have 1. had the surface of the barrel or
the taper changed in any way such as by sandpapering or applying a
solvent to the surface such as fingernail polish remover or by any other
means, 2. had the plug removed/replaced or changed in any way, 3. had
the knob removed/replaced or changed in any way, or 4. had anything
removed or added to the inside or outside of the bat other that tape at
the handle or knob. Cracked, worn (paint/lettering wear is not a problem
so long as the bat can be identified and has the appropriate BPF
marking, but any wearing of the bat material or identifying paint or BPF
wear will be cause for removal) or damaged bats are not altered bats,
but will also be removed from play by USSSA directors and umpires. Such
cracked, worn or damaged bats will not result in a player suspension,
unless the player returns the offending bat into USSSA play after it has
been removed or the bat is also altered.

NSA
Virginia State Fall Meeting: Nov. 15, 2003.
NSA directors from around Virginia met over the weekend to work on
issues for the 2004 season. For slow pitch teams, there are a
couple of items that may be of interest to teams.
The national office approved balls with two different compressions, 400
lb compression and 525 lb compression.
For the 2004 season in Virginia, teams playing in Men's Class D or
higher will be allowed to hit the 525 lb. ball. In Men's Class E,
the 400 lb compression ball will be the only ball allowed. Teams
may use a .44 COR or lower ball.
For Coed, Women and other specialty programs, either ball may be used.

World dates and locations....
12/18/2003
From the Easton web site, the way I read it, original synergy is legal in USSSA and ISA. Not in ASA or NSA.
The USSSA National Convention concluded this past weekend and there were no bat performance standard changes announced that cause Easton to expect any banning issues with any of our current models, including the Synergy, Synergy 2, and Synergy Plus. All are approved for USSSA play.
ISA
The ISA also utilizes the BPF standard. All of Easton's current bats, including the Synergy, Synergy 2, and Synergy Plus, are approved for ISA play and we do not anticipate that status changing.
NSA
The NSA also utilizes the BPF standard. All Easton bats, including the SCX22 Synergy 2 and the SCX23 Synergy Plus, are approved for NSA play and we do not anticipate that status changing. The only exception to this is the Easton SCX2 Synergy bat, which is not approved for NSA play.
ASA
The ASA has adopted a new bat performance standard to be implemented as of January 1, 2004. It utilizes a newly-approved high-speed test and mandates a maximum test exit speed of 98 mph.
The SCX2 Synergy does not meet the new test requirements and will become nonconforming for ASA Championship Play as of January 1, 2004.
