This was Harpine's Drywall
weekend to win as they won 6 straight games Sunday to take home the
title. They beat Alert Security/Scott's Cars 17-9 in the championship
game. The title game was more exciting as Harpine's won that one 13-10
ending the game with their 3rd baseman catching 2 missles to thwart a
rally by Alert Security. Alert Security/Scott's Cars came in 2nd. Blue
Ridge Erectors came in 3rd, losing a heartbreaker to Harpine's 4-2 in
the loser's bracket final. Team Concept came in 4th place, after being
put in the loser's bracket by Alert Security early Saturday. 5th place
was shared by Quality Detailing and Sports-N-More and 7th was shared by
CMI and Shen Valley Merchants. Everyone played some great softball this
weekend and the fans were definitely entertained with numerous great
games throughout.

Miken Sports provides the following update
of information that it has received from each association:
ASA - ASA's 2003 performance standard is
the same as that in effect for 2002. Miken's Ultra II is fully
compliant with ASA's current standard. Although there were meetings
between bat manufacturers and ASA on May 18, 2003 concerning a
possible change in ASA's standard, to Miken's knowledge ASA has not
taken any further action to adopt a change in its standard for 2003.
USSSA - USSSA changed its bat
performance standard earlier this year, announcing the change on
February 19, 2003. On that same date, USSSA also announced that
Miken's Ultra II was not on the approved list for 2003 play, and
that USSSA was not grandfathering any bats for 2003 play that met
USSSA's 2002 standard. As of the present time, Miken is unaware of
any further changes to USSSA's 2003 standard that have been
proposed, or are being considered. Miken has no knowledge as to why
USSSA refused to grandfather bats for 2003 play that met USSSA's
2002 standard. Any questions concerning this issue should be taken
up directly with USSSA.
ISA - Miken has not received any
indication from ISA that a standards change is in the works. ISA's
present standard is the same as ASA's. Miken's Ultra II is fully
compliant with this standard.
NSA - NSA has announced that it has a
new performance standard for 2003, but NSA has not yet provided
manufacturers with any information on how bats are to be tested for
compliance with its new standard. As of this date, Miken's Ultra II
is still temporarily removed from the list of approved bats for NSA
play. Miken is currently in communication with NSA to try to resolve
NSA's temporary removal of the Ultra II from the list of approved
bats. |

| TCB & RK Construction/Hooters
both awarded birth to super D NIT. They will not play out the
championship IF game...
May 17-18: Va. Beach: Mother Nature has
stopped us once again. RK Construction defeated TCB 18-16 to
force the if game in the Super D NIT. With playing conditions
impossible to finish, both teams have agreed to play the if game in
NOVA in the very near future. Much thanks to NOVA Director
Andrea Baldonado on setting this Championship game up.

D division, the final standings were:

Job well done by Nova Director Dre' for her efforts in
getting her first official event off as planned. The desire to see
a tournament go off without a hitch from old man weather hasn't been
seen in the NOVA area in some time. As for Hooters still playing E
and BCC/Worth still playing D...that's another story.

| From ISA's website, re: pitchers box. http://www.isasoftball.com/
A pitchers box consisting of the area from the front of the pitchers
plate, 50 feet from home plate shall be used. The pitcher must
release the ball after coming to a complete stop with one foot or
both feet in contact with the pitchers plate or within the pitchers
box. One foot must remain in contact with the plate/box when the
pitch is released with an underhand motion. A step simultaneous with
the release of the ball may be taken in any direction, with the free
foot. The pitcher must be facing the batter when delivering the
pitch. The catcher must remain within the lines of the catchers box
until the pitched ball is batted, touches the ground or home plate,
or reaches the catchers box. This area should be chalked
off. This box allows the pitcher to release the ball from 50
feet to 56 feet from home plate. |
